Product Associate
The role
The Product Associate sits where product, operations and technology meet at Bourn. It's a hands-on role for a data-driven person who wants to own outcomes, not just a backlog. You'll turn what we learn from customers, operations and our data into clear product decisions, work with engineering to ship them, and measure whether they worked.
We're early stage, so you'll get to wear multiple hats: part product manager, part operations, part analyst. It's a rare chance to use AI and other emerging capabilities to drive genuine innovation in SME working capital, with work that spans both operational improvements that help us scale and the development of new capabilities and products. You'll also be deeply integrated with the operations team, regularly working customer issues yourself in the areas you're improving.
This is a role with wide exposure across the business. Product, engineering, operations, risk and data all sit within it.
Key responsibilities
- Take an active, hands-on role in day-to-day operations, engaging directly with customers to support them, understand their pain points first-hand and gather feedback on what we ship.
- Own the mandate to turn those insights into solutions, fixing root causes rather than symptoms, removing manual work and building the processes and product that let us scale.
- Own discrete product areas end to end, from problem definition and requirements through build, launch and measuring impact.
- Use data to decide what to build: analyse platform, customer and operational data to find the problems worth solving and size their impact.
- Define and track product metrics, building the reporting and MI that show how features and customers are performing.
- Write clear, lean requirements and manage them through the roadmap with engineering, making sensible trade-offs on scope and timing.
- Act as the bridge between operations and engineering, turning operational pain points and manual processes into product improvements.
- Design and build AI-enabled workflows and internal tooling that remove repetitive work and improve accuracy.
- Help develop product operations: internal documentation, feedback loops and the processes that keep the product, operations and tech team in sync.
- Make sure what we build works in a regulated environment, working with risk and compliance on changes that touch customers, funds or credit.
About you
Essential qualifications and experience
- 3-5 years' experience in product management, product operations, business analysis or a comparable role in fintech, financial services or B2B SaaS.
- Strong data skills. You're comfortable using SQL, Excel or BI tools to answer your own questions, and using evidence to make and defend decisions.
- A track record of owning something end to end (a feature, a product area or a process) and being accountable for its results.
- Experience working closely with engineers, with enough technical fluency to discuss trade-offs, integrations and data models with confidence.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including clear requirements and documentation.
- Genuinely interested in working in an early-stage start-up, with appetite for the ambiguity, breadth and pace that comes with it.
Desirable
- Experience in lending, invoice finance, payments, embedded finance or SME banking.
- Hands-on experience building with AI tools, automation or low-code platforms, or a clear willingness to learn.
- Familiarity with open banking (AIS, VRP) or other financial data integrations.
- Experience with product and delivery tooling (e.g. Jira) and customer tooling (e.g. Intercom).
- Experience in a regulated firm, and an understanding of how regulation shapes product decisions.
Skills and personal attributes
- Data-led. You reach for evidence before opinion, and you measure what you ship.
- Strong ownership mentality. You are happy to pick things up, see them through and raise a hand for more.
- Pragmatic prioritiser who can make good decisions with incomplete information and say no to the right things.
- Comfortable moving between strategy and detail, from a roadmap conversation to checking a data edge case.
- Curious and quick to learn new tools, systems and domains.
- High personal integrity and a consistent commitment to doing the right thing for customers.
