Full Stack Engineer (TypeScript / Node)
TypeScript / NestJS leaning, genuinely full stack.
The role
We're looking for an engineer who wants ownership, a fast-moving environment and interesting problems to solve. Bring strong TypeScript/Node fundamentals, curiosity and a willingness to move between backend, frontend and infrastructure. The scope runs from customer-facing portals to bank integrations, event-driven workflows and AI-enabled financial products.
What you'll be working on
Build and own features across lending, payments, billing and vendor management, from API and event design through to the user experience. You might build a NestJS microservice one day, a lender portal in Next.js the next, then connect the whole workflow through Kafka.
Integrate financial-data providers to support data aggregation, credit decisioning and better lending products. Work with Tier 1 banks, fintechs and specialist providers on banking APIs, payments, account infrastructure and transaction monitoring.
Expect boutique, bespoke integrations as well as familiar APIs: bank-specific requirements and the entertaining edge cases that appear when software meets real money.
Work with LLMs, agents and Model Context Protocol (MCP) clients and servers. Build authenticated tool interfaces, expose financial capabilities with appropriate access controls, and help connect financial data and AI-driven lending decisions to reliable, explainable production workflows.
How we work
We're a small engineering organisation with real autonomy, short feedback loops and direct access to product, finance and commercial stakeholders. You'll take a problem, understand what the business needs, challenge assumptions, design a sensible solution and get it into production.
We like quick prototypes, useful feedback and engineers who ship. We also build financial infrastructure: reliability, idempotency, security, observability and good automated testing matter when your code can move money.
AI is part of how we build. Use it to investigate unfamiliar systems, prototype ideas, write and review code, and tackle bigger problems. Bring your own engineering judgement to the result. You build it, understand it and help operate it.
About you
What matters most
Strong TypeScript/Node engineering fundamentals, sound judgement and the ability to learn quickly matter more than experience with any particular tool.
You'd enjoy this role if...
- You like owning a problem and shipping useful software.
- You can move across services, UI, data and infrastructure.
- You use AI thoughtfully to increase what you can accomplish.
- You enjoy APIs, distributed systems and unfamiliar integrations.
- You care about production behaviour, including failure and recovery.
- You want tangible outcomes: businesses receiving funding, money moving and lending decisions becoming working products.
Bring your curiosity. Build things that matter.
Apply for this role
This is a full-time role based in London, with a hybrid working pattern. We value time together in person for collaboration, problem-solving and building relationships across the team, while also giving people the flexibility to do focused work. For an exceptional candidate, we're open to discussing a different arrangement, as long as it supports the ownership, responsiveness and close collaboration the role needs.

Be part of something being built now
We're early enough that your work will shape how Bourn grows, including our culture, our ways of working and the business itself.

Work on a problem that matters
The business overdraft hasn't kept pace with how modern businesses operate. We're building what comes next, helping SMEs access the working capital they need to grow.

Backed by people who know the market
Our founding team brings deep experience from banking and fintech, and we're supported by investors including a Tier 1 bank.

Real ownership from day one
You'll take responsibility for meaningful work, with direct influence on decisions and visible impact on outcomes.

See the whole business
Bourn sits where finance, technology and partnerships meet, so you'll gain broad exposure and learn quickly.

Join a team that raises the bar together
We value initiative, high standards, honest feedback and thoughtful execution.
